We often get questions about how and when the district makes a delay or closing call. A great deal of collaboration goes into the decision-making for two-hour delays and closings:
- Our primary concern is the safety of our staff and students.
- We have 140 student drivers daily who are relatively new drivers.
- Valley View School District is 68 square miles which must be assessed.
- We often consult with the following to make decisions: our maintenance staff, led by Erick Depew; local police on the roads; and, our First Student staff who go out and drive routes on snow days to give updates.
- Decisions cannot always be made the night before but we make every effort to inform families as soon as possible.
- Our first buses leave the garage at about 6:05 AM so it would be rare, but not impossible, to get a notification after that time.
Again, while we understand the inconvenience any change in schedule can cause, our commitment to the safety of our students and staff is at the forefront of any delay or closing decision.
