The Valley View Board of Education has approved the 2021-22 school year calendar. School will start on September 7, the Tuesday after Labor Day, and end on June 2.
"We surveyed parents and staff in early February on their thoughts and preferences for the school year calendar," said Valley View Superintendent Ben Richards. "The September start calendar options were the first choice of 69% of parents, with 57% selecting the version we will be using as their first choice. Staff also favored the September start options."
Parent comments on the survey included concerns about the heat in August and a desire for the school schedule to accommodate summer plans.
New to the planned calendar this year will be a staggered start that will allow students and teachers to acclimate in smaller class sizes. Details of the start plan will be communicated to parents this summer.
The calendar will also feature planned remote days for the November 2 election and November 22-23, the Monday and Tuesday leading up to Thanksgiving. Valley View has traditionally closed for the general election since the High School is used as a polling place. The remote start to Thanksgiving week will support travel and offer flexibility for families.
