Remote instruction January 4-15

From the Desk of the Superintendent:

Greetings Spartans!

2020 has had a few notable and positive moments, but for most of us, we cannot wait for 2020 to end and to anticipate a better 2021.

In looking at data, trends, and in having regular conversations with our health department, I believe that the first two weeks of 2021 will be among the worst weeks we have when it comes to COVID. Therefore, I am announcing that Valley View will be on remote instruction January 4-15th. Rather than adopting a "wait and see" approach, I would rather give our entire community as much notice as possible to make necessary arrangements.

We will have our Spartans Online Safely program up and running for those two weeks for students in grades K-6 who qualify. More information will be sent about this program in the coming days/week.

I do not make this decision lightly. Many of you have taken the time to email or call me about your strong preferences to either be remote or remain in-person. I appreciate the feedback and the passion that goes in to each response. I firmly believe that in-person learning is the best modality we can provide, but we must be able to do it safely. We are seeing major upticks in reported cases after each holiday, and I want to ensure we provide a safe environment for all staff and students.

I sincerely appreciate the understanding and flexibility that everyone has shown this year. While it has most certainly been trying, it has also shown the resiliency and resolve of our community.

I am proud to be your Superintendent.
Ben Richards
