"GOOD" Awards presented to Sixth Graders

For the 21st consecutive year, the Germantown Lions Club presented "Good citizen" awards to twenty sixth graders at a special assembly on Thursday, Feb.9 in the Valley View Intermediate School auditorium. The assembly was attended by the entire sixth grade class as well as Parents and Family members.  The Germantown Lions are charter members in presenting these "GOOD" awards.  Ron Derry, a former teacher and coach from Northwest Ohio became blind due to complications of diabetes.  He still wanted to do positive things for students even though his teaching and coaching were no longer possible.  He had to decide, will I go on or will I be defeated by blindness.  The acronym GOOD stands for Going On Or Defeated.  The "GOOD" awards are given to students who exemplify good citizenship traits on a daily basis.  The Germantown Lions are proud to participate in this worthwhile project.

Valley View Intermediate students are working hard with their "inventions".  The local Invention Convention will be held Wednesday, February 22, 2017.  Top Scorers will be invited to the Southwest Regional Convention on April 1, 2017.  Good luck to all our Valley View Intermediate participants and thank you to Mrs. Hamm and Mrs. Fischer for being our staff advisors! 

College Credit Plus

All students in grades 7 - 12 have the opportunity to participate in College Credit Plus (CC+). Ohio's College Credit Plus can help you earn college and high school credits at the same time by taking college courses from community colleges or universities. The purpose of this program is to promote rigorous academic pursuits and to provide a wide variety of options to college-ready students. 

There will be an informational meeting at Valley View High School on Wednesday, February 15th at 6:00 p.m. for Students and Parents of Students interested in participating in College Credit Plus.  Anyone thinking about participating is highly encouraged to attend the meeting on February 15th.  Letter of Intent forms must be turned in to the school counselor, Mrs. Carmack, by April 1st.

***2017 Camp Invention***

The 2017 Camp Invention will be June 5 - 9!!!!

Camp Invention is one week in the summer where your child’s creativity, innovation, and problem-solving skills are challenged and developed in fun and exciting ways. Our top priority is to inspire future innovators and build their confidence in the natural ability to dream and create. This opportunity is for students entering 4th through 6th grade.  Directed by Mr. Timothy Mitchell.

Important vaccination information for 6th and 11th grade students

Attention Parents of 6th and 11th graders,

    The Ohio Department of Health is now requiring all incoming 7th graders to have the Tdap and the Meningococcal vaccine prior to 7th grade. They are also requiring all incoming 12th graders to have a 2nd dose of the Meningococcal vaccine prior to 12th grade.

     Please contact your Physician to schedule your child's appointment for this immunization. You may provide an updated immunization record, a note from your physician or a billing receipt that indicates the child has had the vaccine. Please make sure your child's name and DOB are on these documents and submit them to the main office of your child's school building, attention Nurse.

     Note : As required by State Law , Section 3313.671 and Ohio Revised Code 3701.13 a child  may not attend school unless they are up to date with their immunizations. Students who do not meet this requirement prior to the first day of school, will be excluded from school.

Intervention Math and Reading classes to begin!

It's time for the second session of the reading and math intervention classes to begin for grades third through six.  This is an afterschool program which students have registered for.  Third grade to sixth grade math classes will begin on Tuesday, January 17 and run from 3:40 to 4:40.  Reading classes will begin on Wednesday, January 18 and run from 3:40 to 4:40.  This session will go through March 30. Parents are responsible for transportation.

Anyone with a four year degree may become a Certified Substitute Teacher. Stop by the Central Office at 59 Peffley St. Germantown to fill out an application and certification. Valley View School District uses the AESOP system for its substitute teachers.

Valley View Science Crew
