Valley View MVCTC Business Academy

The Valley View MVCTC Business Academy has had quite a Spring competing at various levels of competition.  Valley View had seven State Qualifiers who attended and competed at the 2017 BPA State Leadership Conference and Competition, in Columbus on march 16th and 17th.  They were Hunter Cantrell, Sabrina Ezerski, Lance Helton, Madison Miller, Hannah Powers, Caitlin Reed and Ian Stebelton.

Ian Stebelton qualified to compete in the State Competition after finishing in 1st Place at Regionals in a Microsoft Office contest.  At the State level, Ian finished in the top five in the state.  Ian was awarded a medal at the BPA State Awards Ceremony on March 17th and he and Valley View High School were recognized on stage at this huge event.  He is invited to compete at the National level in Orlando, Florida in May.

In addition to the State level of competition, the students competed in a BPA National Stock Market Competition. Students are given $100,000 to invest across any US stocks, ETFs, or mutual funds in a stock simulation, which uses the actual US market performance. The students with the top ten portfolio returns at the end of the contest qualify for BPA Nationals, where they will present their portfolios to a panel of judges for a chance at winning the Grand Prize. This year, Valley View’s Business Academy had two students finish in the top ten. Congratulations to Emma Jewell, who finished the competition with the number one portfolio ranking, nationwide. Congratulations to Hunter Cantrell, who had been sustaining a 4th place position for weeks, and finished with the 7th highest portfolio return. Emma and Hunter have earned an opportunity to compete at the BPA National Competition in Orlando, Florida in May.

This is second year Valley View-MVCTC”s Business Academy has competed in this event and the second year students have succeeded. In 2016, Valley View Business Academy’s Tyler Black won 1st Place in Boston.
