Superintendent Earley reflects on school year

It is impossible to think about the end of another school year without reflecting on the way it began.  As I walk through the Primary Building and observe the kindergarteners succeeding in their routines I remember the first day of school when they arrived a bit apprehensive yet excited about the new adventures awaiting them.   The staff has taken such care to enact plans that maximize every single day to the advantage of the students.  It is clear that their efforts were well worth the preparation.   As planned, our young learners have gained confidence, skills, and abilities that will help them successfully transition to first grade.  Their pride in their accomplishments can be observed in how often they engage me in conversations about how excited they are about the next adventures ahead of them.  It is a true joy to see the growth of our young people and witness the maturity and progress that teachers facilitate before our eyes.

2017 Cardboard Boat Regatta

cardboard boat regatta

The 5th annual Cardboard Boat Regatta took place on Tuesday, May 23, 2017.  Duct tape for the projects was generously donated by The Jackson Township Police Department for the 2nd year in a row.

During the last two weeks of the school year students use all of their cooperative teamwork skills to work as a class to decide on a theme, create costumes, design and build a 3D printed scale model, create plans and construct a cardboard boat using only cardboard and duct tape. The boat must hold two classmates and be able to sail from one end of the Farmersville Pool to the other. This year the themes included WWE, Candyland, Titanic, Lilo & Stitch, Bubba Gump's Shrimp Boat, and Jaws. First place this year was my second period advanced class in their all girl built boat Candyland. Second place was my sixth period with Jaws. Third place was my fourth period with The Titanic!

Concerns for Netflix series, "13 Reasons Why"

Thirteen Reasons Why

The trending Netflix series 13 Reasons Why, based on a young adult novel of the same name, is raising awareness and concerns of how we portray and deal with the real life issue of suicide, bullying, and sexual assault. The series revolves around 17-year-old Hannah Baker, who takes her own life and leaves behind audio recordings for 13 people who she says in some way were part of why she killed herself. Each tape recounts painful events in which one or more of the 13 individuals played a role.

We think it’s vital that parents are equipped with knowledge and resources when deciding whether or not their child should watch this series.
